Celebrating Grandparents’ Day is more than just another obligation to put on a calendar. It’s an opportunity to honor the legacy of a family. Grandparents’ Day has been honored annually since 1979 when President Jimmy Carter signed it into law. This year, Grandparents’ Day falls on Sunday September 8.

Zoo Atlanta
This year, Zoo Atlanta is offering free admission for up to two grandparents with the purchase of one child or adult’s regularly priced general admission ticket. The zoo is home to multiple animal grandparents, including Ozzie and Choomba, two western lowland gorillas.
The Breman Museum
Storytelling, puppets, and activities abound at this event at The Breman. Be sure to grab your free tickets to this event, where there will be opportunities to engage in fun activities to spend quality time together.
High Museum of Art
The UPS Second Sunday is on September 8 this year, which means you will get free admission and access to activities, smARTbox distribution, and music from a live DJ.
Atlanta History Center
Visit the Atlanta History Center, which is home to 33 acres of areas to explore including a farm, several historical houses, beautiful gardens, and museums that cover many topics from BIPOC communities, Atlanta’s history, sports history, and women’s history. The Atlanta History Center is also home to StoryCorps where you can record a conversation, the perfect place to have an interview with your loved ones.
Kennesaw Mountain
Beautiful views with significant historical ties, the park has miles of trails, a museum, ranger presentations and so much more. Bring a picnic and enjoy a day outside!
Botanical Garden
Take in the delightful Alice’s Wonderland Returns exhibit and enjoy the beautiful gardens and all its water features.
Georgia Aquarium
The Aquarium is home to coastal birds and aquatic animals from all around the world. With lots of exciting exhibits, you may even find a whale shark!
Atlanta Beltline
